How Chemical Gas Absorption Towers or Industrial Wet Scrubbers Work
Industrial wet scrubbers work use the principle of absorption where a gas stream is passed through a packed tower in counter flow with the scrubbing liquor. Packing media is used to encourage liquid flow dispersion without tracking and to provide a maximum contact area for 'mass transfer' interactions. The gas contaminant is absorbed into the scrubbing liquor before the clean air is vetted to the atmosphere through a chimney stack.
The composition of the gas stream influences the type of scrubbing liquor used, height and diameter of the packed bed.
A mist eliminator is fitted at the top of the tower to prevent entrainment of scrubber liquor droplets into the extraction system.
